Vegan and Gluten Free Breakfast & Snack Idea – Morning Jars
Vegan and Gluten free Breakfast Ideas (Great for kids to do themselves too)
Being Vegan and Gluten free it’s always hard to find good recipes that cover both. You can get great gluten free stuff but they tend to have eggs in them, then the Vegan wheat flour in them, so we find a way of making our own foods and recipes at home, our kids live to be involved too.
Breakfast time for us (I am sure like many) still involves finding a shoe or a piece of homework being doing or just a late start. This helps us to make sure we are all getting something good into us and I don’t have to worry about portion control, almond milk being spilt all over the floor or somebody not having anything. 2 of our kids age 7 and 5 prepare these and make enough for a few days. This day we prepared 10. 5 each. They have to count out all the ingredients, cut them up (with a plastic knife with supervision still) and add it all in themselves, I get them to do mental maths to add things together and subtract them too. Awesome learning and teaching tool.
They tend to come straight in from school and have them as an after school snack too, which is AWESOME for me too, saves times thinking about snacks, as they have done them themselves they remember them and think they are super fun as they are in a jar with a lid and they can see it through it. Small things of excitement as a kid right? Just too cute!
These are so basic (and you can obviously put in whatever you like)
We make 10 at a time (kids make 5 each) and they keep well for 3 days (after that the fruit starts getting a bit soggy)
In these ones are:
2 Tablespoons of Gluten free oats and dried fruit mix
2 Tablespoons of Vanilla non dairy yoghurt
3 sliced medium strawberries
5 Red Grapes
1 teaspoon of sliced almonds
These are put into old peanut butter jars that I keep, perfect size for them, no point wasting money buying mason jars when they aren’t needed, recycle what you have or ask friends to save their coffee jars, sauce jars, olive jars for you too. They come in handy for many things.
